Adventures. Pacific'O restaurant's executive chef "captain" James
McDonald (right) and swashbuckling co-owner Stephan Bel-Robert had a whale of a time at
"Maui Chefs Present Sugar Cane Days," the kickoff to Hawaii's "A Taste of
Lahaina" in September. Held at the Kaanapali Train Station, which had been
transformed into a 1920s plantation town, 14 island chefs served signature specialties to
650 attendees. During the weekend, 37 chefs convened at the Lahaina Cannery Mall for a
regional marketplace, cooking demos, and wine tastings. The festival lured 30,000 visitors
and netted more than $70,000 for local charities. Photo by Tony Novak-Clifford.
